After forty-three years of continuous use as an international hostel and more than 300,000 visitors, 205-year-old Chamounix Mansion is being restored and updated. Plans have matured to action to replace the roofs, restore the windows, trim and shutters; repair the masonry; and update the bathrooms and systems. The effort will keep this historic Mansion in great shape for another fifty years…and extend the welcome of Philadelphia to many more thousands of visitors, according to William J. O’Brien, Chamounix Board Chairman.
With a goal of $500,000 for the restoration effort, the Friends of Chamounix seeks support for its first-ever capital campaign. O’Brien notes that the unique park setting and mission of Chamounix Mansion appeals to those who encourage preservation of an historic landmark; as well as those who support this diverse cultural opportunity and creative Fairmount Park use. As of May 15, 2007 more than $200,000 has been raised, including gifts from each member of Chamounix’s Board of Directors and Advisors and a generous grant from the William Penn Foundation.
One hundred percent of your donation to The Next Fifty Years Capital Campaign will be dedicated directly to the restoration. All gifts are tax deductible, as the Friends of Chamounix Mansion is a nonprofit charitable organization recognized as a 501(c)(3) entity.
