Manayunk On Ice is coming!

Valentine’s Day Weekend will kick off Manayunk on I.C.E., the first ever extreme ice carving competition and ice sculpture invitational in the region! Festival Consultant, Peter Slavin, owner of Fear No Ice!, the world’s first and only performance ice sculpting company, will bring together master ice sculpting with performance and fresh music, creating one of the most unique shows ever conceived.  Peter will also carve one of a kind commissioned ice sculptures for Manayunk Businesses that will be displayed along the Manayunk Business District.

Over the course of the frozen love-themed weekend, ice will be set ablaze, a National Ice Carvers Association (N.I.C.A.) sanctioned event will take place where carvers will compete for prizes, a special “Manayunk-inspired” carving will be performed by Fear No Ice and a Masters Invitational will showcase large impressive sculptures representative of “obsession.”

 

Three Day Weekend Schedule:


Fire & Ice Kick Off Event [Friday, February 11, 2010]


Prepare to be wowed as we take a large block of ice and light it on fire! People will be
in awe as they watch a tremendous and beautiful combustion take place. Afterwards,
visitors are invited to a reception featuring free hors d’oeuvres and specials in
Manayunk.

 


N.I.C.A. Sanctioned Ice Carving Contest [Saturday, February 12, 2010]
Theme: True Love


· In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, the N.I.C.A. Competition theme will be “True
Love.”
· Ten to twenty professional ice carvers will compete for prizes as they carve 40’
tall/300 lb. ice blocks into beautiful pieces of art. First Prize: $1500, Second
Prize: $500, Third Prize: $250.
· Ten to Twenty Manayunk Businesses will commission personalized ice
sculptures that will be placed outside of their shops and restaurants. Visitors
can take an ice tour of the district as they visit each one of these unique
pieces.
· Peter Slavin will complete the evening with an exclusive Manayunkinspired
performance ice carving.

 


Master Sculptor Invitational [Sunday, February 13, 2010]
Theme: Obsession


  · In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, the Master’s Exhibition theme is “Obsession.”
  · Five Master Sculptors are creating large impressive ice carvings. These
    sculptors include:
        o Dan Rebholz [Chicago]
        o Kevin Roscoe [Seattle]
        o Vivatt Hong Pong [Thailand]
        o Don Lowing [New Jersey]
        o Peter Slavin [Philadelphia – Pennsylvania]
  · A People’s Choice award will go to the crowd’s favorite sculpture.
